Questions about LIFE and Belief - why are we here?    THINK!
Was it all an accident of nature?                        THINK!
Or is there someone behind it all?    THINK!

After life

Do you want to go to Heaven? You choose...

What is heaven like?
Doesn't everybody go there?

The choice is simple - and it's all yours.

The Bible does not tell us all there is to know about heaven, but it does give us many, very clear pointers.

First, the Bad News! To set the scene, we live here in earth within a framework called "time", and we cannot escape it in our bodily form. There is no such thing as time travel - we're here and we're stuck with it.

Now the Good News! God and heaven are outside of time. From God's domain, He can see into every sub-atomic particle of the whole of creation from start to finish, all at once.

1. God is all-powerful.

God created the Universe. ALL of it. AND everything in it, including you and me, and everybody else.

2. God is everywhere all at once.

He is here, where I am typing this page. He is with you as you read it. He is in all the depths of the ocean; he is in the farthest corners of the universe. He is on the sun-kissed sands of tropical islands. He is on the heights of the tallest mountains. He is in the deepest mines that man has ever dug. He is in outer space. We cannot go anywhere to escape from him. He could not hide from you if he tried - he is everywhere, within us and around us.

3. God is in every moment of time.

From the furthest past, from before the time of creation; he is in the present here and now; he will be in every moment of the future right up to and beyond the end of time.

4. God knows everything.

He knows all the scientific things that we will ever discover, and all those that we won't. He knows everything everybody did in the past, he knows what they are doing now - including you and me - and he knows what we will do in the future, to the end of time.

Who is heaven for? It is for those who love the Lord Jesus Christ.

Here is what the Bible says about Heaven.

  • It is a spiritual place where God lives. (John 12:28; 17:1).

  • God created Heaven (Acts 4:24; 14:15) and is Lord over it (Acts 17:24).

  • It is the place that Jesus came from. (John 6:38).

  • God, through Jesus, created the angels. (Colossians 1:16).

  • It is where countless numbers of angels live. (Luke 2:15; 22:43; Galatians 1:8; Hebrews 12:22; Revelation 10:1)).

  • There was once a war in heaven. There was a rebellion when one of the angels - called Satan - tried to take God's glory for himself. As a result of this, Satan and his angels were defeated and cast out of heaven and eternity, and down onto the earth and into time. (i.e. Satan is still spirit, but he is no longer immortal). (Luke 10:18; Revelation 12:7-12).

  • Heaven is where the Holy Spirit comes from (Luke 3:22; Acts 2:2-4; 1 Peter 1:12).

  • God send us visions from heaven, and these have a meaning that God wants to convey to us. (Acts 10:11-16; 11:5-10; 26:19).

  • Jesus returned to heaven after he came back to life after being dead and buried. (Mark 16:19; Luke 24:51; Acts 1:1,11; 7:55-56).

  • Jesus has a special place of honour there. He sits at the right hand of the throne of God in . (1 Peter 3:22).

  • It is a place where there is more rejoicing over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. (Luke 15:7).

  • God reveals his wrath from the heavens against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness. (Romans 1:18).

  • When (if) we go to heaven, we will have new spiritual bodies that are imperishable (1 Corinthians 15:42-44), we shall bear the likeness of Jesus (1 Corinthians 15:49; Philippians 3:21), and we shall be immortal (1 Corinthians 15:53; 1 Peter 1:4).

  • In heaven, we will receive rewards for the way we stand firm in our faith in Jesus, in spite of what others may do to us. (Luke 6:23).

  • We can store up inexhaustible treasures in heaven if we have a giving heart here on earth, and are not in bondage to our wealth. (Luke 12:33; 18:22).

  • It is a place where we will be loved, unconditionally and totally, by the one being who himself is Love. "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." (Revelation 21:3-4).

  • Jesus is King of Kings and Lord of Lords; he has been given all authority in heaven and on earth. (Matthew 28:18).

  • It is a place where there is no marriage - it just doesn't exist there. We will be like the angels. (Mark 11:25). We will not need a spouse as a life companion. The love of a husband or wife, even at its greatest, cannot compare with the love of Jesus. Our relationship with Jesus will be perfect and filled with love. Earthly love is a mere shadow, a hint of the heavenly love to come.

  • Jesus will come again back to earth from heaven, and the dead will be raised to life. (1 Thessalonians 4:16).

  • When Jesus returns, he will be revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. (2 Thessalonians 1:7-8).

  • It is not a weak place; it is strong. It will oversee the eventual destruction of the earth. (Read Revelation, mostly from chapter 11 onwards, for the whole story).

  • An angel will come from heaven and destroy Satan. (Revelation 20).

  • After the final destruction of Satan, there will be a new creation of heaven and earth, and a new Jerusalem, the Holy City, coming out of heaven from God. (Revelation 21:1-2).

Phew! Heaven sounds like a great place to spend eternity; but it is not a place to be taken lightly.
